Can I say a prayer for you?

That was the first line He said to me.
Can I say a Prayer for you?

I was in the kitchen about to make diner for my family when I heard the knock. Not expecting any package or visitors, I peeked through the kitchen blinds and saw two Caucasian looking quite comfortable and if not for the fact that one of them saw me, I truly would have gone back to what I was doing but my eyes locked with the eyes of one of my January visitors, leaving me no choice.
I open the door and I smile. Two young men wearing white T-shirts underneath their Black Suits and having their name on  lapel which I could not clearly see apart from ‘CHRIST’, which made me rule out Jehovah witness, so I ask, ‘How can I help you?’

He stretched his hand towards me and requests for a hand shake which I politely decline because my hands have ‘food in progress’ written all over it and I let him know. He smiles and asks ‘Can I say a prayer for you?
Wow! Boy was I taken aback. I though they first line would be ‘We are here to share with you the good news’! With which of course I would have responded ‘I know the good news and I know Jesus’.
But asking to say a prayer for me, I said yes of course. The next question just tasted like ‘Apple Pecan Salad’ in my mouth… He asks ‘What would you want us to pray with you on?’ After few seconds, I say ‘My February event- www.beautyinbusiness.eventbrite.com’ and lo and behold brethren! we prayed!

Why this story?
Because I learnt from it.
Many evangelists/preachers who have come up to me want to tell me about ‘The/Their Gospel’ and there is nothing wrong with that but this is my first time of hearing ‘Can I say a prayer for you’ and I believe this quote sums it all up ‘People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care” - Theodore Roosevelt

I do not know if I am just emotional or in the words of my sister in law ‘Why so emosh?’ but asking a complete stranger if you can say a prayer with/for them is like giving a hug that transcends the flesh into the soul. It is like saying I am here for you even if the next second I would be at the next door repeating exactly what I just told you. It is like lobbying for you in another realm even if I just met you in the physical lobby. It is like saying ‘despite our differences, I will invest the next few minutes and put your desire above mine’.
After the prayer, they sure did try to tell me about the ‘real reason’ they knocked on my door and we sorted all that out and they departed smiling genuinely.
My question is: When last did you approach a stranger friend and say ‘I would love to say a prayer with and for you’? Personally I cannot honestly remember! I know I intercede but what about the ones who are close by and we see every day, why don’t we think of agreeing with them concerning a matter?
Before we tell others what we know, what we believe in and what we think is the only solution to their problem, how about meeting them where they are (I do not mean physically) but making an attempt to truly understand what they are about.
There is so much about a person that a perceived judgment about a part of them and this is what leads to assumptions, ‘I thought she thought’, and then we use a part of their entirety to judge them entirely.
My rule of thumb is usually ‘Treat others as you want others to treat you’.  If the men at my door started off by telling me why my life is less of a shine because I am not working in their gospel, I would not have shut the door on their face, no not at all but my mind would be out of that conversation.
They asked about what I cared about when they asked what I wanted them to pray on and to get a stranger reach out to you like that in this ‘cat eat cat’ world is heartwarming.
So when you are in a situation with someone and you are trying to connect with them, why not ask them ‘I would love to agree with you on a matter through prayers’. What do you say? :)

2015- Breath of ?

Yes 2015 is well in motion to say the least!

21 days into January and this is my first post! Wow!
Joking with my husband few days ago, I said ‘ I am not sure why exactly I am so busy that I do not have them for my little pleasures anymore! So what would happen when the kids come? (Good question)

This post in itself is an actual miracle because I am in the middle hosting a baby shower for a friend coming up in few days, planning Beauty in Business (A networking event geared towards Women who aspire to be better: www.beautyinbusiness.eventbrite.com), searching deeply and intently for the business I was created to be the Queen of, working on the creative aspect of my empire :D and also planning the other events we lined up this 2015!

This is just the summary of my January so far and in the words of a wise person ‘Everyone has the same amount of time in a day: 24 hours. It just depends on how you use it. Some choose to use their time by making the world better; others use it wishing they could make the world better, and then there are the rest of us who just sits back to watch the world hoping someone will find the time to make it better.
What lane are you on?

In 2015, few things, I hope to God I do not just say I would do but actually do are as below:
-          - What is the worst that can happen if I approach that person ask that question or make that ridiculous request? The worst that can happen is I hear a No and we keep it moving forward.
-          -To draw the fine line between business and pleasure. It is as simple as this. I am working on refusing to apologize for my professionalism.
-          -To be soft around the edges (seems like I am contrasting myself with number two right?) Now this is very funny because my close friends sometime fill a resignation form after they are done working with me.  Even when I am working on a project, I tend to be afraid of myself!lol. So I am going to work towards a balance.
-          -Step out there and not be afraid of a backlash. Come backlash or not, to make a move a step is needed. It is exhausting overcoming the world in your subconscious but in your conscious all you see is the reason why the world will reject you.
-         - Pray more, Listen more, Love more, Laugh more, Live more and of course write more :D

What do you hope to do differently this  year, actually do because to be honest, as we get older, there is no luxury for us to keep wishing. Time is ticking so let's make it count, so help us God, Amen!

The Summary of Tyler Perry's Journey

Why did I put all my money into this? Is this going to work? God, do you hear me? Where are the people? I’m so scared. How will I pay these people? Why did I do this? I can’t pay my rent, they are going to repossess my car…

The year was 1992, July 8th-12th. All these questions were crowding my mind. I was a 22-year old wannabe... but what I wanted to be I didn’t know. All I knew was that I had written this play about adult survivors of child abuse and I wanted the world to see it. I was so sure that it was going to work that I put my own money into the show.

I had worked as a used car salesman and a bill collector and saved my income tax check and my bonuses. I took that money and hired a cast and built a set and rented a very small theater in Atlanta called the 14th Street Playhouse. I had done all the math in my head: I was going to perform 6 shows, 200 people a show, for a total of 1,200 people. The tickets were $12 and I was going to make $14,000 and be rich… LOL. I was going to give my tithe to the church, give my mother some money, pay my rent (that was two months behind), get my car payment caught up and live happily ever after. I knew as sure as I am sitting here that it was all going to be all right. I had prayed that thang out, as they say in the Baptist church… LOL. Looking back on it now I can laugh, but back then it wasn’t so funny. What I quickly realized is that prayer alone will not always get the results you want. As much work as I did, I didn’t do enough to promote the show. More work was needed to go along with my faith.

I was expecting 1,200 people but only 30 showed up. I was devastated. I thought my dreams were dead. Based off this one thing I thought my life was over. Based on this one failure (what I thought was a failure but it clearly wasn’t), I thought that the rest of my life would be ruined. Needless to say, looking back on it, it was all a part of God’s plan and amazing design for my life. And God has a plan for all of our lives.

Today I celebrate my 20th anniversary in show business. It’s been an amazing journey, one that I will detail in my autobiography one day. You would be surprised, inspired, angry and blown away with what I’ve endured to be here, but until then I’d like to share a little inspiration with you. So many times we think that because one thing didn’t go as planned we should give up on it. So many people leave their dreams dying on the floor, gasping for air because it didn’t work out the first time. Be it marriage, business, children, faith, whatever your dream is, you can't give up because it didn’t go as planned. If I had walked away because it didn’t work you wouldn’t be reading this. I had to keep moving. Yes, there were setbacks. Yes, it was difficult, but I got to see my dreams come to pass because I never stopped moving forward, I never stopped praying and most of all I never stopped believing. DON’T STOP BELIEVING!!!! PLEASE DON’T STOP BELIEVING!!! Say this to yourself out loud right now: “DON’T STOP BELIEVING”, and repeat it to yourself whenever you doubt that you can make it.

What you must understand is that everything, all of it, the good the bad and the ugly, it all works together for your good. If you love the Lord you are called according to His purpose. What’s His purpose for you? If you’re not sure, seek it and all your dreams will come true.

To all my dreamers, to all the people who have invested in themselves, to all the people who have the same questions that I did, hear me when I say this: YOU CAN DO IT!!

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS IN SHOW BUSINESS TODAY!!!!

God Bless you, in Jesus' name, AMEN!
