Living Perfumed In A Polluted World - By Buchi Law’ Okeke.

Hello All, I hope we are having a most fabulous week! I just had to post this blessed piece by my brother! yes real brother! He has explained in detail what it means to be the salt of the earth as God created us to be!
Salt do not go about messing about with water for they loose their composition nor go about losing their identity like every other white dust and that is why the below is a must read.

'Pollution can be defined as the process of making air, water, soil etc. dangerously dirty and not suitable for people to use. However for purposes of this write-up, Pollution is seen as the evil vices that exist in the world that has stained and made man stink in the presence of God.

The world Is filled with a lot of pollution that has stank into its depth, affecting all age brackets even the young ones have joined the band wagon of pollution leading to their inevitable destruction. Some examples of this pollution include: Jealousy, Pride, Alcoholism, Drug Abuse, Envy, Sexual immorality, Unforgiveness, Disobedience, Selfishness, Lying, Stealing etc.

The Bible in Matthew 5:13-14 says “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

A brief illustration into this word simply means that as Christians we are meant to live a perfumed life, like the Bible described it as a “Salt”, the inept characteristics of a Salt is to add flavor, taste, color and sweetness to the food it is put into, it also has the characteristics of being sharp in taste, painful when applied in injuries etc.  As Christians we are not expected to live short of this description. In all our life endeavours we would face pollution from the Nigerian life experience in terms of corruption, lackadaisical attitude to work, gossiping about others and a lot of other pollution that can rub off on us, but we must stand out and not lose our savour, our taste, our color which exists mainly from our lifestyle as Christians. You are brand ambassadors of Christ wherever you go, that means that you spray Christ in your classrooms, offices, with friends and family and not leaving him on the side-lines, only calling him when you have run into problems.

As a perfume of this world we are expected to light up the thick, prevalent and continuous darkness that exists in all sectors of the economy. The devil is putting his people in helm of affairs controlling all sector s of the economy that is why the menace of corruption, greed and wanton killings exist unabated, because Christians have either decided to switch of their lights and sell their birth rights for a piece of bread or they have stopped being vigilant about the devices of the devil. The bible says in 1Peter 5:8 ‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour’. As Christians we have to be on a constant watch out on the tricks of the devil, that is why our perfume must never run dry, the pollution that exists on the earth can turn anyone perfume to the smell of a pit if he is not constantly spraying the perfume from the Almighty on a daily basis.

A few examples of persons in the Bible that remained perfumed despite all odds:
 1. Joseph: In Gen 39:7-9 ‘And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.  But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;   There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?’

Joseph refused to pollute himself, with the sexual offer of Potiphar’s wife, because of the fear of God, thereby facing a punishment that finally led to his promotion. We must learn from this story so as to have self-control especially when it comes to sexual offers flying around, a lot of people have died during the process of sex, some during the process of abortion, while others through sexually transmitted diseases. Joseph was not just seeing the now, but he foresaw the future of his glory. If he had slept with Potiphars wife he would just have been a celebrated house boy.  Further read Gen 39:11-18,40:5-23,41:1-46.

2. Shedrach, Meschach and Abednego: The Jewish Christians refused to worship the god of Nebuchadnezzar because of their belief in the lord God Almighty and their trust in Him that he would deliver them from the fiery furnace which was the punishment, they stood firm to their decision even after the Kings decision that the furnace be heated up seven more times. Dan 3v1-30. Unshakable faith and belief in God is one of the ways to be perfumed continuously in this polluted world, they knew what faith was all about and they tapped into it. In our workplace, academics or in society generally, we must have an unshakable faith when trusting God, because God looks at the inward appearance and thoughts of our heart and he knows when we have a flinching faith. Hold unto your faith, it is the difference maker.

Hopefully, with this few examples you have been able to see how God can promote you to a place of greatness after you show unshakable faith, commitment, dedication and trust to his Word and what He is capable of doing. The bible says in Num 23:19 ‘God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?'. God keeps his word; you just keep your Faith.
